Little by little, I came to understand how to fight for and regain my freedom from the matrix, and guide others who were pointed out to me. Rather than spending time in ashrams, yoga, meditation or spiritual centers, I hoofed it alone through nature and the cities of Europe as well as the United States with direct communications from my Higher Self and other aspects of Self in the timeless zones. Being my own (spiritual) home, clearly indicated in my natal astrological Signature that I chose for this incarnation, over time it mattered not if I rested my head on a rock, in a jail cell or in a castle. My mother’s controlling behavior pattern inspired me to observe others as to discover that there are instigators who apply invisible, electronic means of controlling the population, such as putting people in a trance to make them do things they normally would not consider doing. Hardly capable of remembering or even understanding what it is they are doing in a dream-induced state, it is impossible for the controlled humans to even take responsibility for their own actions, a necessity on the road to Freedom! With my mother as a role model, initially I adopted most of her pattern. It became the reason for me to tackle and eliminate that pattern to become the true individual I longed to BE. My choice of labeling those who tried to derail me, the Simultaneous Spirit Suppressors, is based on their hive-mind behavior. That type of behavior has been taken on by many different types of simultaneous spirit incarnations, including such individuals as those who suffer from Asperger’s syndrome, or different types of so-called autism, etc. or anyone who is a habitual TV watcher. I used the SSS delineation to differentiate the sequential incarnation from the simultaneous incarnation. The SSS identification is not intended to be an 'all-inclusive' label, or to pertain to behavior patterns as displayed by less mature simultaneous incarnations. For me, the only way to be able to perceive what is really going on in the world is through doing inner work, sweep out the vibrational cobwebs or veils to build up inner strength. Progressively, when my inner battle between the mind and the spirit subsided into a surrender to my Higher Self, I perceived the world differently. Knowledge is earned and wisdom is learned. Applying that knowledge in many situations has shown me many new insights. After my surrender in 1991, with John, a more Advanced aspect of my Higher Self, taking over the reins, I lived according to the natural laws as described in The Handbook for a New Paradigm.

Having established my ignorance of the subject, I attempted to evaluate the current literature and case treatments on the subject. I looked through psychiatric journals, psychological writings, and marriage counseling treatises.

My startling conclusion? It appears that no one in a professional capacity understands anything about marriage and especially the court system. Furthermore there is absolutely no literature that one can find that will define what one s problems are, or, what one can do to correct defects that are existing in one s marriage.

The answers that one can find are pitiful. Gross guessing by bearded professors. Speculations by supposed noted psychologists and psychiatrists. Pontifications by totally ignorant counselors. One can do as well by watching daytime television, which is where I suspect these professionals get their information.

Therefore, in this book, I have attempted to treat the subject of marriage and devise a workable explanation of its decay or its success based on the conclusions reached in my handling of over one thousand domestic relations files. It is my hope that the findings of my research will help to save your marriage -- or prevent you from entering into a bad one.

In "The 8 Reasons for Divorce" Attorney Thomas Papps gives a revealing glimpse of the reasons so many marriages fail and he even offers a simple, easy to take test of his own creation to see if yours may be heading for the courthouse. The anonymous case studies are fascinating, tragic, blackly funny and even bizarre all at the same time and he makes no bones about drawing his conclusion that the demands, temptations and distractions of our fast paced, culturally diverse society plus our own selfishness have made keeping our marriages whole and integrated into our own "family tribe" almost impossible - and the "family tribe" is what supported and held marriages together in the past.

Readers that are still married might wince and get a little nervous reading how other couples that share the same unresolved issues they live with wound up divorced but maybe what they'll learn from the book can help minimize the damage or even avoid a divorce altogether... Maybe. Everyone will get something different out of this interesting book. Nervous parents will want their kid to take the pre-marriage test before they set a wedding date and the recently divorced who still haven't figured out what hit them may take some comfort in knowing they weren't alone in their heartache and frustration. Mr. Papps makes what could have been a dry and boring data mining exercise interesting and gives the reader an often times funny glimpse behind the curtain of the "divorce business," something it could really use and I know this because I'm in it too.

About the Author
Born to very poor Greek immigrant parents in depression. Law degree from Ohio State. After school, I went in the Army and then to Korea. Eventually I tried a big case: U.S. Army v. Jake Jacobson, where twelve sergeants conspired to steal by signing false vouchers and being paid several times a month with their records being thrown away by an inside conspirator. When arrested, ten plead guilty; one committed suicide; and I represented the twelfth and used a defense that I had dreamed up in school that I thought would beat any criminal case. He was acquitted even though all his co-conspirators came and testified against him. Because of my high ranking on the bar exam, I received offers from many firms, one in Cleveland being the biggest law firm in the world at that time. I turned them down. I did not want bosses. I opened a storefront office and after winning a few trials, lawyers began sending me their cases to do for them. I refused to charge clients based on my interpretation of ancient Homeric ethics that I found more intelligent and preferable to Biblical rules. There were three: Never harm one who honors you such as a client who chooses you. Have no hubris. Always act with the feeling of honor. Because I honored my government that allowed a poor immigrant s son to succeed, I signed up and tried many federal trials for indigents and on some went to the Courts of Appeals and I never filled out the vouchers to be paid by the government. In 1963 I was the first lawyer in America to file a case in Pittsburgh on the basis that the doctor did not sufficiently explain the consequences of a treatment. I won a large judgment and it was sustained by the supreme court of Pennsylvania in Grey v. Grunnagle. This is now the law in every state in the U.S and is called failure of informed consent. In Kalamazoo, Michigan I tried a criminal case and won an acquittal and this case, Michigan v. Brayboy, was used by several major Michigan universities to teach search and seizure, even though the case was at the lowest level of court. In the Supreme Court of Ohio in Weyland v. Countrymart Grain Company of Lima, Ohio, I established the doctrine of deliberate tort in Ohio, which is a method of by-passing the Workman s Compensation limits. In the Supreme Court of the U.S. against Thurgood Marshall when he was solicitor general, and later a Justice, I obtained a reduction in sentence for my client from seven years to nine months in the case of U.S. v. Jimmy Johnson. I feel that I have done my part as a human and a citizen. My loves are archeology, literature, and ancient history, on which I have written, and I also like collecting real art and my collection would be very desirable by a small museum. And I write poetry, one of which won a national contest; and one of my poems, according to two English professors, is supposed to be the best love poem ever written in the English language, but that remains to be seen if I ever submit it for publication. I like putting things together such as solving a historical problem as to what a certain naval maneuver was that was used by the Greeks against the Persians in 480, B.C. For 2,500 years no one knew. I read ancient writers such as Thucydides, Xenophon, and Diodorus Sicilus who described defenses to this movement of ships. From these, by reverse reasoning, I figured out the attack and it was published in Annapolis magazine, Naval History. My books on divorces, judges, the Bible, pre-nuptials, and other possibly coming works are all of this method of inquiry. What comes next after you've conquered the world?

"On the three-hundredth anniversary of my birth, I finally managed to conquer the world."

So starts Perfect State, a clever little sci-fi story about reality, emperors, and dating. The main character, God-Emperor Kairominas, was surprisingly easy to relate to, even though, as of the quarter-century anniversary of my birth, I have yet to conquer anything. The other characters don't get much time to shine, but Shale and Bask made good use of their appearances and I liked both of them a great deal.

The story is fast paced and humorous, though the ending gets a little... serious. However, it is a really short story (about 71 Kindle pages). Calling it a "novella" feels misleading. To me, novella implies a short novel. Perfect States is really just a short story. I would have purchased it regardless, but would have preferred to know how short it was beforehand (NOTE: when I purchased the book and at the time I wrote the review, the page count for this story had not been posted).

The only Sanderson work I don't like

I feel bad giving this such a low rating as Sanderson is my favorite living fantasy author, but I really didn't like this one. The plot had an interesting premise but I found the interaction between Kairominas and Sophie cringeworthy, which is terrible because Brandon normally writes such great female characters. It took me out of the story and the resolution, which was unexpected, wasn't enough to redeem it for me. I found myself wandering what on earth the point was at the end.

Quick and enjoyable read

Great quick read. I'm not a fast reader and it took me a couple hours tops. Brandon Sanderson has an incredible talent for writing books that look effortless. The ideas and storyline in the beginning are complex but I knew it would come together the more I read and it did.

*Beginning of possible spoiler (it's scene setting not plot revealing)*. Its set in a Matrix-esq world (think brains in jars) and each brain (Person) gets their own stimulated world (everyone else in that world is a program with a concept) built around them. The Person that the world is built around can interact with other real People in Border States but our Main Character doesn't do that much. Also, the real person is told that they are in a stimulation when they reach age 50 by what is known as the Wode.

The premise is intriguing and fun and the story takes us on an adventure where the main character is pushed to do some self discovery. I definitely recommend this and any book by Brandon Sanderson. He always leaves me wanting more. I am ready for the next installment of Perfect State!! If you are familiar with Sanderson's other work it has the same flow as the two Legion books. It is a very short read and it is absolutely incredible what Brandon Sanderson accomplished in so few pages. If I had a book club I would love to go over this book with them. I have questions!! Any book that leaves me thinking about the plot long after I read it is something to be cherished. Keep on writing Mr. Sanderson! Oh and for any parents out there - it does touch upon sex. Read first so you can decide if you want to pass it along.

In an astonishing novel of epic scope, Bell (Save Me, Joe Louis) follows the lives of a handful of characters from radically different social strata during the period of Haiti's struggle for independence. Nothing about that period was simple. In 1791, when the Caribbean island that native Amerindians called "Hayti" was divided between a Spanish colony in the east and the French colony of Saint Domingue, a slave revolt broke out in the French territory that claimed 12,000 lives in its first months. But the fighting wasn't only between black slaves and white owners; the colony had a Byzantine social structure that recognized 64 different "shades" of mulatto; of the half-million blacks in Saint Domingue, some 30,000 were free mulattos whose political interests often ran contrary to those of the slaves. The country's 40,000 whites were themselves divided over the outcome of the recent revolution in France. During the next 12 years, to increase their power bases, four racial/political groups?white royalists, white republicans, free mulattos and black slaves?formed and dissolved a string of unlikely alliances at a dizzying clip. Bell's principals here include a runaway slave looking for real freedom, the disturbed mistress of a razed sugar plantation and a royalist soldier in the embattled Cap Francais guard. Central to the narrative are Toussaint L'Ouverture, the enigmatic 51-year-old leader of the revolt, and Doctor Antoine Hebert, a Frenchman who shows up in Haiti just before the revolt breaks out. Hebert, who spends time as Toussaint's prisoner, falls for a freed mulatto. Warned by a young married Frenchwomen that "Who marries a black woman becomes black," the physician is appalled, yet heeds the very words he dismisses. Toussaint, too, bears the mark of contradiction. He appears to be a simple, devout man, but he has "learned a way to make his words march in more than one direction." A handful of chapters are set in 1802, when Toussaint is taken across the Atlantic as a prisoner. By omitting the middle of the revolutionary's story (during which he takes over Haiti, names himself governor-general and refuses to declare it independent), Bell astutely indicates that Toussaint, who saw himself as a noble warrior, was in fact motivated by a bizarre and self-defeating concept. By alluding to the end of the revolution only in a beautiful and haunting epilogue, moreover, Bell avoids the sense of victory that mars so many novels about revolution. Here at least, after more than 500 wrenching pages of rapes and massacres and fetuses impaled on pikes, there can be no question of a winner of the battle for Haitian liberation. Surviving it was feat enough. In Bell's hands, the chaos, marked by unspeakable acts of violence, that surrounds these characters somehow elucidates the nobility of even the most craven among them.

As has been the case throughout much of its history, Haiti in the 1790s was racked by violence?the result of an intricate and sometimes brutal system of racial and social classification exacerbated by the upheavals of the French Revolution. Thus, Haiti provides an ideal setting for Bell (Save Me Joe Louis, LJ 5/1/93) to explore his interest in the motivations that all too often propel us to give vent to our baser instincts. The story centers on the bloody beginnings of the rebellion from which Toussaint L'Ouverture, a seemingly docile slave, eventually emerged as the self-proclaimed governor general of the island. Bell has crafted a somewhat complex and violent tale?it opens with a woman being crucified for killing her baby so he would not have to live the life of a slave. Not for the faint-hearted, this work offers a fascinating glimpse into a little-known episode of hemispheric history. One can be glad for the chronology and the glossary Bell includes. Most appropriate for public libraries and academic libraries where Bell's work is popular.

I stopped reading because I don't know French.

This book was recommended to me by a very reliable source. The problem is that there are key concepts that are introduced in colloquial French with no explanation in English. Since I don't speak French I missed these points. Even my Kindle French dictionary was no help.

What I was able to read was fascinating and engaging.

Humanity under pressure

Beautiful writing about an operatic subject. Masterful humanization of inhuman circumstances whose consequences are still felt. I bought this for a short trip to Haiti, and it has reinforced my love and interest for the place, and provided many insights (such as the side note about the differences between Haiti and the DR). A pleasure to read something so thoroughly researched--I especially valued the author's impartial inclusion of vodun, as well as the position of the mulatres. Choufleurs vs the doctor--I'm starting Crossroads today.

If you like historical fiction about a little known part of history I recommend this book

Unable to find a good history of the slave rebellion in Haiti I turned to this book (historical fiction). Was an enjoyable read and I did learn quite a bit about the history of the rebellion (as much from the synopsis in the back as in the story) but will not buy the next two in the series.
