A Great Edition

This is a very interesting edition of the 15 Alfred Burt Christmas carols. It includes not only the original music and lyrics, but also images of the original greeting cards which were sent out between 1942-54. Burt died too soon at the age of 33, and included in this book are writings by his wife Anne which tell about the carols and her life with Alfred. Many people already know "Some Children See Him," "Caroling, Caroling," and "The Star Carol," but "All On A Christmas Morning" and "Come, Dear Children" are just as great. Burt was the son of an Episcopal rector, but he was also influenced by jazz, so you find both hymnody and modern harmonies in his work. "The Star Carol" is not only his masterpiece, it is also one of the greatest carols ever written.

Something I've wanted for years

I had been looking for the Alfred Burt carols since singing them with a community choir group years ago. The book had information about when and how the carols were written, and the hymn-type format is accessible for many pianists and amateur singers. I like the Michigan connection!

It's not Christmas without Al Burt's carols

My father bought the Columbia album with Al Burt's carols back in 1959, and it just isn't Christmas in our home without these beautiful songs. This book gives background and includes the music, so now my daughter can play them on the piano as well. Thanks to the Burt family for sharing these with us in a new way.

"Awakening Intuition"

Colette shares her experiences that led to her surrendering to what she already knew to be true. She was blessed with the gift of intuition, and her service was to accept it and share it. The first part of the book is her story. I enjoyed reading her story, it's really interesting. Just because she's intuitive (she prefers not to be labeled psychic because of the stigma that goes along with it.)doesn't mean that she's had things easy. There were plenty of times when her intuition was blocked and she experienced some painful events. She talks about how it left her and when it returned. And, being ituitive never guaranteed that she'd always make the right choices.

The second part of the book is about unblocking (recovering) your intuition. The remaining chapters are on 'The Seven Spiritual Keys' -advice and excercises you can do to put yourself in a better position to access/ recover your intuition. This section of the book is what I'll be re-reading and studying. I found so much good information here, not just about how to be more intuitive, but how to be more spiritual which seems to automatically strengthen your intuition.

Colette says that intuition is "a natural sixth sense that is bestowed on everyone -Without exception." It's just that we're all at very different levels with it. She likens it to her being in the olympic category. (While I think most of all the rest of us are somewhere around the high school gym level.)

I learned a lot from this book, and am looking forward to studying/ excercising the seven spiritual keys.

Complete Honesty

Colette bears her soul to events in her life that would make most people hide under all the pain and suffering. She has a spiritual awareness which connects her in her book, CD's (Journey of the Chackra's-highly recommended) and in person. You always have choices even on how you view the troubling events in your life as gifts. If she can do it so can you and I. You will end the book with a profound understanding to life's mysteries. Make sure to connect to you intutive self with the final chapters of how to connect yourself.

Mystical, Profound and Practical

Colette's book is a profound autobiography and practical guide that tells the story of how her gift developed and flowered through and as a result of many dark nights. Reading Colette's book, I came away with the view that here is a real person with a real gift- who is humble, smart, funny and sensitive and who has devoted her life to serving others. Colette's practical suggestions really hit home to me-- particularly the section on the "goblin" of the demanding, always worrying ego that gets in the way of opening ourselves to a very deep and existing spiritual reality. I would strongly recommend reading Colette's book!

Excellent for beginner of advanced user

As a Web design teacher who deals with these issues on a daily basis, I have already decided I will use this as a textbook in the future. My students range from completely uninformed to reasonably practiced developers. This book will work equally with all of them.

Others have addressed the depth of the topics of the book, so there is little I can add there. I wanted to say how much I appreciate how short the lessons are. Although the book is designed for more advanced Web designers, a neophyte wanting to learn to develop Web pages could pick this book up and work through the lessons in short and easy steps, becoming reasonably well informed developers.

I also particularly appreciate the appendices in the back. One addresses XHTML, and the other Cascading Style Sheets. They are both easily used and full of information.

I highly recommend this book and plan to use it in relevant graduate and undergraduate courses (actually, I also plan to keep it by my side while I work). Now if I could just find a similarly satisfying XML book.

Awesome Resource!

What a great pickup this book has been! As someone who has worked with html at the code level for many years, I picked this up with the intention of honing my CSS skills. After reviewing the topics I already felt comfortable with so as to make sure I was doing things correctly, I was able to quickly get up to speed on the topics that most interested me.

Arranged so that skills build progressively through the book coupled with clear, bold page headers it is simple to flip through and easily find any section you are looking for. I especially like the way the author broke down large topics into smaller, scalable sub-topics that are clearly explained on two pages, eliminating the back and forth page flipping that some authors make necessary.

In addition to covering the most basic of html and CSS, the author doesn't shy away from introducing more advanced uses such as alternate-use style sheets and even the creation and implementation of RSS feeds.

This isn't a `dummies' book that tries too hard to be clever and jokey, it is a serious resource that quickly and clearly gets to the point while avoiding the dryness that some books fall prey to. I've never picked up a Wiley Press book before but will definitely consider them in the future.

Useless and stupid

This is a required text for a class I'm taking. It's a waste of money. What's sound (the basics on skinner, piaget, etc ad nauseum) is already in every other education textbook and the technology segments are dated, frequently wrong, and assume you are mentally retarded.

Does anyone really need to be told what a keyboard is? For 2 pages? Book also has a profound Microsoft bias and seems to openly deny that anything else exists.

Avoid, if possible.

What You'd Expect...

This type of learning should not be taught with a traditional textbook, anyway. This particular one suffers from poor layout, way too many colors, and fonts that strain the eye.

if you need the myeducationkit access code, buy the text at a bookstore

This is the only lesson I learned from this textbook-purchasing experience: textbooks sold through Amazon or other third-party vendors often do NOT come with valid access codes for the online tools some professors (like mine) require.
I had a brand new, unused code come along with this book (as you can see by the Amazon description, "with myeducation kit") and ended up communicating with the book publisher's technical support crew for way too much time just to figure out that Amazon gave me an invalid code for the book. Apparently this happens frequently with third party vendors.
