How to put the steam into your punk

This is a great little book about drawing steampunk devices, characters and vistas. One of the nice things is that the authors assume you already know the basics of drawing and painting, so not a lot of time is wasted going over what is already so easily found in so many other general art books, and you can get right into the heart of steampunk philosophy and depiction. The artist with whom the authors worked did a great job providing step-by-step drawings of the projects, but his style was very "soft" for what was an uber-mechanical age; it would have been nice to include examples of a few other artistic styles, but since there are already several steampunk compilations around -- such as "The Steampunk Bible" -- it's a minor quibble. One aspect of the book which I really enjoyed was the inclusion of computer illustration techniques, ways to take your original drawings into the digital realm -- the instructions were clear, concise and concrete. If you're looking for a basic instruction/inspiration book on creating steampunk art, it's hard to beat this combination of value and scope of information.

From sketch to completion

This book was very handy for getting an idea of the style of artwork associated with this genre. The author takes you step-by-step, using original examples, to show you how it's done. A great book! I only wish it was longer with both additional illustrtaion/models and with some types of details expected in this type of artwork.

Very interesting information

The book, How to Draw Steampunk, is very informative and has wonderful illustrations and instructions. It gives great ideas how the mind works when "out there" and want to draw something out of the ordinary. I love the time period it covers and it amazed me to see that some of our forefathers actually did use this method of engineering and creating.
