About the Author
David Burch, PhD, FRIN, is the Director of Starpath School of Navigation, which after 26,000 classroom students since 1979 switched to all online training in 2008. He is the author of 13 books and hundreds of magazine articles. He received the Institute of Navigation's Superior Achievement Award for outstanding performance as a practicing navigator. He is Fellow of the US Institute of Navigation as well as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation in London. He has extensive ocean sailing experience covering much of the globe, and once held an elapsed time record for the Victoria to Maui Yacht Race that lasted for 16 years. On the academic side, he is a past Fulbright Scholar with a PHD in physics.

Outstanding Resource

David Burch is one of the world's most respected navigators. I trained with him in Seattle toward getting my USCG Master's license years ago, and was always impressed by his thoroughness and the manner in which he simplified complex information so that anyone with a basic education could comprehend. This book is an accompaniment to the Star Finder tool, so anyone who doesn't know what the Star Finder actually IS will naturally be lost. Those who do own or who wish to purchase a Star Finder would be wise to have this excellent resource in hand. Better yet, take one of David's celestial navigation courses (in the classroom or online.)

Does what it says it'll do. Wanted expanded instructions for the star-finder's use and I got it. Couldn't ask for more!

Much More Than Instructions. Plenty of Practical C-nav Knowledge

Fabulous guide to using the star finder, which is sorely needed since the included instructions are insufficient. BUT this book is even better because it also includes LOTS of practical knowledge offered by someone who clearly has first hand experience and is pleased to share what he has learned (probably the hard way.) Much of it applies even if you don't have a 2102D star finder and never expect to lay eyes on one.
I don't know why I waited so long to buy this book. I love it and you will too.
